Scott Metzger (Born Oct 12, 1977) is a natural guitarist. He is known by musicians and fans for his ability to compose naturally composed sounding improvisations on the spot and for a distinctly tasteful and lyrical sound on the instrument. Upon hearing him at a festival in 2002 James Brown, the Godfather of Soul, told Scott that his guitar playing is "Frightening. I swear you play so much guitar it scares me." His sound is a combination of his biggest musical influences-Eddie Hazel (legendary guitarist for Funkadelic), Danny Gatton, Wes Montgomery, Richard Thompson, Jimi Hendrix and the entire Stax recording label catalog.
Born and raised in Trenton, NJ he picked up guitar at age 14 starting out playing heavy rock and blues (The first concert he ever attended was The Ramones @ City Gardens in Trenton, NJ in 1994.) At 15 he started to learn the rich history of jazz guitar and at 16 was invited join the prestigious New Jersey All State Jazz band. This was a huge honor and very telling of Scott's natural musical ability as other musicians took years preparing in hopes of becoming a member of the NJASB. It took Scott 6 months.
In 2001 he moved to Brooklyn, NY which he still calls "home." Since that time he has kept a busy calendar touring internationally with a variety of acts and has appeared on close to 100 recordings. Some of the musicians that have invited Scott to take it to the stage with them include Warren Haynes and Government Mule, Joss Stone, Cracker, Bob Weir (Grateful Dead), Joe Satriani, John Medeski, ?uestlove, Trey Anastasio, Stanton Moore, Steve Garvey (Buzzcocks), Dana Colley, Moe Tucker (Velvet Underground), Shawn Pelton, Gene and Dean Ween, John Popper (Blues Traveler), and jam band heavyweights The Disco Biscuits to name a few.
